Organizing For Justice / Organisons-nous pour la Justice

We would like to invite you to participate in the upcoming “Organizing for Justice” conference which is being held in Ottawa from November 20th to 22nd. We are looking for workshop presenters, facilitators and panelists, as well as tablers at the information fair.

This conference is targeted to people in the Ottawa-Outaouais region who are involved and or interested in community organizing. The four main themes of the conference are: social justice; economic justice; environmental justice; and healthy communities.

The conference will span three days: November 20th to 22nd and will be comprised of a Thursday evening panel discussion; a Friday evening music and social event; and a Saturday all-day line-up of workshops, sessions and information fair, followed by an evening social. The Saturday will feature content in both English and French.

We are currently inviting applications for workshop session topics / ideas for Saturday, November 22nd. We are looking for sessions (either in English or French) to fit one of the following three themes:
– Skills/Tools for Effective Organizing;
– Anti-oppression Analysis and Practise; and
– Developing Common Vision, Strategy, Communication & Networking

Please consider contacting us if you are interested in presenting a workshop / session for this conference. If doing so, please include the following:
– 1-2 paragraph description of topic
– 1-2 paragraph description of your experience / qualifications regarding this topic
– whether you would be willing to present on own and/or with others (as a panel)

We ask that you respond by October 10th. Also, if you know of others who might be interested, please forward this information on to them.

We are hoping to be able to cover any transportation costs for presenters, and also possibly offer a small honorarium.

Nous aimerions vous inviter à participer à la conférence ‘Organizing for Justice’, qui aura lieu du 20 au 22 Novembre prochain. Nous sommes présentement à la recherche de gens qui souhaiteraient présenter des ateliers, être panelists, être facilitateurs ou gérer une table durant notre foire informative.

Cette conférence s’adresse aux gens de la région d’Ottawa-Outaouais qui sont couramment impliqués ou voudraient devenir impliqués dans des projets en tant qu’organisateurs dans leurs communautés. Les quatre grand thèmes de la conférence seront : La justice sociale; La justice économique; La justice environnementale et les communautés saines

La conférence s’étendra sur trois jours (20, 21, 22 Novembre) et inclura un panel d’ouverture le Jeudi soir, une soirée de musique le vendredi soir et une pleine journée d’ateliers Samedi, incluant une foire d’infos et suivi d’un événement social. La conférence se déroulera en français et en anglais.

Nous sommes présentement à la recherche de gens qui aimeraient présenter au sujet d’un des thèmes suivant :
- Ateliers pratico pratiques : Outils pour mieux organiser
- Analyse et pratiques d’anti-oppression
- Développer une vision commune : stratégies, communication et networking

SVP considérez nous contacter si vous êtes intéressés à présenter un atelier ou une session. SVP inclure :
- Description d’une ou deux paragraphes de votre thème choisi
- Courte description d’une ou deux paragraphes qui expliquent pourquoi vous êtes qualifié pour présenter ce sujet.
- Si vous serriez d’accord à présenter en faisant parti d’un group (ie : sur un panel)

Nous demandons que les gens intéressés répondent d’ici le 10 Octobre. Aussi, si vous connaissez d’autres gens qui serraient peut-être intéressés laisser les savoir.

Nous espérons pouvoir couvrir les coûts de transport pour ceux qui présentent et espérons aussi pouvoir offrir un modeste honorarium.

ORGANIZING FOR JUSTICE CONFERENCE IN NOVEMBER

A group of people are planning an Ottawa conference for November that will bring together a wide range of activists and community organizers around the themes of social justice, economic justice, environmental justice and healthy communities.

The conference is entitled Organizing For Justice and will run Nov 20-22. There will be a Thursday night panel discussion, a Friday night musical / social event, and an all-day Saturday lineup of presentations, workshops, discussions and an info-fair, followed by an evening social. The organizers are working to make this conference as accessible as possible, in both English and French, with childcare provided.

The aim is to bring together those involved and/or interested in activism and organizing to share their learnings with each other, to network and build relationships, to teach organizing skills, and to develop strategy and vision. A key theme is that we need to come together as a local activist community in order to grow our movement(s).

How can you help? We can use input on what you would like to see included at the conference,  as well as having people help with things (both in advance and especially the day of) and offer billeting for out-of-towners. And perhaps the most important thing is word of mouth promotion – let’s build the excitement as the date for this conference approaches!
